Title: Historic Redevelopment Training
Description: SPACE IS LIMITED-REGISTER TODAY The New Hampshire Planners Association is hosting a half-day training focused on historic re-use and redevelopment. The event will showcase the City of Lowell's efforts in attracting private investment in downtown projects and offer strategies for New Hampshire communities to consider. Once saddled with one of the nation's highest unemployment rates and dozens of vacant mills, Lowell has emerged as a national model in recent years for its efforts in historic redevelopment. Since 2000, more than 1,700 new housing units have been built in Downtown Lowell and more than 3 million square feet of previously vacant buildings have been redeveloped. The event will include a tour of a mill redevelopment project currently underway, a presentation and walking tour of the master planned Hamilton Canal District hosted by Adam Baacke, director of campus planning for UMASS Lowell and former director of planning and development for the City of Lowell. The training will conclude with a 90-minute boat tour narrated by the National Park Service. This event is sponsored in part by the Northern New England Chapter of the American Planning Association. A total of 3.75 AICP credits have already been approved. Cost is $20 for NHPA members and $25 for non- members and includes lunch. Carpool opportunities are available from Merrimack and Nashua.
